College and Career Readiness

1. Make sure you are on track for graduation

2. Take or re-take the ACT/SAT

3. Select the colleges you are interested in attending

   • College Board – In and out of state schools

   • When possible, try to visit college campuses, schedule a tour and talk to advisors
4. Apply to colleges, universities and/or technical/trade schools of your choice
   • Participate in Utah College Application Week – October 20th – 24th. We will help you fill out your college applications in your Language Arts class. If you don’t have a Language Arts class please come see us in the counseling office that week. 
   • Apply Online
   • Have official transcripts sent from all previous schools. Request an SCHS transcript
   • If you have taken CE classes with Utah Tech after applying and acceptance, you need to request a Utah Tech Transcript be sent to the institution you will be attending for articulation purposes
   • Utah Tech concurrent enrollment students MUST REAPPLY TO UTU using returning users application portal
   • General Education Certificate with UTU taught at SCHS.
     • General Education classes taught at Utah Tech
   • Send your ACT scores to the universities that you plan to attend
   • Application fees waived at all Utah Public Colleges during UCAW
   • Stay on top of DEADLINES
5. Apply for financial aid with FAFSA
   • Fill out the FAFSA beginning October 1st 2025 (First come, first served basis)
   • You will be using your 2024 taxes – so you will be eligible for the IRS data retrieval tool
   • Attend our Financial Aid night at SCHS on October 22nd at 6:00pm in room 207
6. Start looking for additional scholarships
   • Scholarship search resources
   • The amount of scholarship money you receive is proportional to the time you put in searching and applying
   • If eligible for the Opportunity Scholarship fill out the application when it opens on January 5th 2026
     • Priority Deadline January 23rd 2026
     • Final Deadline (may miss out on money) March 20th 2026

8. If playing sports in college make sure you are NCAA eligible
